Abstract EN

The second stage of labour is the time started when the cervix is fully dilated.

In this stage the fetus is expelled from the uterine cavity.

It is divided according to the degree of the fetal presenting part descent into pelvic as well as perineal phases, and into passive phase and active phase as regard the absence or presence of the bearing down efforts respectively.

Some women may experience a latent phase of the second stage which is the period after a full dilated cervix where there is a decrease in the strength and frequency of uterine contractions and no urge to push.

During the second stage of labour both mother and fetus may undergo serious complications.

Thus, the proper management of this process could ultimately lead to decrease in many sequelae.

and Cesarean section rates.
