2, 6 Biphenyl-1, 4-diselenafulvene (1) was prepared by air oxidation of PhC ≡ CSe.

Treatment of 1 with equimolar amounts of Fe2 (CO) 9 produced (μ3-Se) 2Fe3 (CO) 9 (2).

Compound 1 was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-, 13C {1H}-NMR spectroscopy and by X-ray structure determination, while compound 2 was characterized by elemental analysis, IR and EIMS spectrometry.
