Abstract EN

The title compound is a stable chemical entity, easily prepared on a large scale using cheap chemicals.

The compound is densely functionalized, and by taking advantage of the chemical properties of the various functional groups, a variety of compounds have been synthesized.

Some syntheses involve deportation of the ketal moiety to form the corresponding α, β-unsaturated acetylene ketones, which appear to react with nucleophiles in a Michael fashion.

This has enabled us to develop a new furan synthesis.
