Studies on some bacterial isolates affecting budgerigars

A total of 200 budgerigars were examined ; out of them 180 birds were diagnosed as apparently healthy birds, where faucal dropping were collected.

Twenty birds were diagnosed as diseased birds and submitted for bacteriological and histopathologically examination in addition to carrying out antibiotic sensitivity tests for the isolated bacteria.

examination of apparently healthy bud-gerigars revealed the isolation of escherichia, klebsiella, proteus, edwardsiella, serratia, providencia, yersienia, pseudomonas, salmonella, staphylococcus, enterococcus and corynebacterium in different percentages while that of diseased budgerigars revealed the isolation of e.

coli, proteus, klebsiella, staphylococcus and enterococcus.

The prevalence of different isolated bacteria from healthy and diseased birds in relation to the hygienic and environmental conditions was discussed in details.

Histopathologically findings showed catarrhal enteritis, congestion and per hepatitis.

The antibiotic sensitivity tests revealed that, gentamycin, amikacin and tetracycline were the most effective antibiotics against most isolated bacteria.
