Clinical and laboratory studies on canine atopic dermatitis in dogs

Ten dogs aged between (eight months to two years) manifesting signs of atopic dermatitis were admitted to veterinary clinic of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University in Ismailia.

Clinical and dermatological examinations revealed severe erythema and intense pruritus and some cases showed ulcerations in the forelimb.

Whole blood samples and serum samples were taken from the jugular vein and examined in the lab ; the laboratory investigation revealed a significant decrease in erythrocyte count in affected dogs with a significant band neutrophil and eosinophilia.

Also significant decreases in mean values of total protein, globulin and zinc levels were recorded.

The levels of the measured parameters were improved after treatment.
