Antigen 85 (Ag85) complex proteins are major secretory products of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

This antigen was purified from the unheated culture filtrate of M.

bovis by open column ion exchange liquid chromatography and used for serodiagnosis of porcine tuberculosis.

Out of 675 examined pigs, 70 (10.4 %) were found to have tuberculous like lesions, 52 (74.3%) of them were positive culture and the isolates were M.

bovis (23.1%), M tuberculosis (30.8%), M.

scrofulicium (25%) and M.

intracellulare (9.7%).The unidentified mycobacteria were (11.5%).

ELISA test utilizing antigen 85 showed a sensitivity, specificity and accuracy index of 75%, 96.4% and 82.5% respectively, while on using the bovine PPD the values were 80.8%, 89.3% and 83.8 respectively.
