Abstract EN
Ten does were allocated to 2 groups for estrous synchronization using commercial intravaginal sponge impregnated with medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) (group 1 n=5) or intravaginal sponge impregnated with medroxyprogesterone acetate loaded on chitosan microspheres (group 2, n=5 home made sponge).
All intravaginal progesterone were admi-nistrated for a period of 10 days.
All does were im injected with 5 mg PGF2α, 24h before sponge removal.
Estrus response for all treatments was 100%.
The onset of estrus for group 1 and 2 was 42.8±4.3 and 43.6 ± 4.7h, respectively without any significant differences between them.
The induced estrous duration for group 1 and 2 were 40.0 ± 4.1h and 39.5 ± 3.4h, respectively.
The pregnancy rate was 80% vs 60% for group 1 and 2, respectively.
The diameter of CL decreased significantly during treatment and CL completely undetected on the ovaries of all does, 3 days after sponge removal (during onset of estrus).
The follicles diameters were significantly increased during progesterone treatment and the number of ovulated follicles was 3.4±0.24 and 3.2 ± 0.37 in group 1 and 2, respectively at the time of sponge withdrawal.
The use of sponge impregnated with MAP loaded on chitosan micros-pheres (home made sponge) plus im injection of PGF2α was economic and effective in the attainment of early and compact synchronization of estrus in goats.
