Effect of multi-enzymes feed additives on performance and some metabolic parameters in turkeys

The present study was designed to investigate the effects of recently used multi-enzyme feed additive "Kemzyme" on some metabolic parameters of male turkeys.

Twenty birds were used, divided equally into 2 groups ; control and kemzyme-fed group.

The experiment was continued for 10 successive weeks.

Blood samples were collected from birds of all groups at the end of 2, 4, 8 and 10th weeks of the experiment.

Productive performance parameters including body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and feed efficiency were calculated.

Some metabolic blood parameters, including blood glucose, total proteins, uric acid, and cholesterol, Triglycerides, T3, T4 and TSH were also measured.

Results revealed that addition of kemzyme to Turkey's diet significantly improved body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and feed efficiency.

A marked increase in the levels of blood glucose, total proteins, cholesterol and Triglycerides were observed in birds fed Kemzyme.

Significant elevations in the levels of blood T3 and TSH was also recorded on, the other hand the results showed a significant decrease in the blood level of T4.

Conclusively, addition of multi-enzymes as a feed additive to the ration of growing turkeys could be a beneficial practical tool for improving productive performance that could be mediated through either enhancing growth rate, improving the endogenous metabolic pools of birds or active regulation of thyroid gland functions.
