Alhakims vision of equilibrium versus the absurd : a study of the tree climber

The study focuses on Tawfiq Al-Hakim's skilful use of dramatic devices to communicate his own vision of equilibrium between the rational and the irrational in his play The Tree Climber (Ya Tali Al Shajarah).

A textual analysis of this play reveals that Al-Hakim's concept of equilibrium is used not only as a thematic technique but also as a structural device.

The play could be conveniently divided into two parts-representing both the rational and the irrational leading towards the desperate need for having a balanced approach in human relationships.
