Abstract EN

Background/aim: This paper is a conceptual paper, which originally was an invited plenary lecture for the Second International Conference of the Arab Society for Medical Research.

Its principle method is philosophical and in particular phenomenological.

The aim is to explicate the fact that technology can relate-to and in so doing, can, in our technological era, effectively treat and diagnose diseases in a human and very effectively assist in the performance of human medical operations.

But Technology cannot relate-with, or more precisely, personally care for a human person.

The question of ethics in relation to Medical Technology for Arab countries – ethics being a concept that is foremost in relating-with – forms the pivotal axis of argumentation and discussion underlying a theoretic, and thus a basis for action, in relation to the distinction between (ethical) medical technique and medical technology.

Conclusion: We can assist the Arab countries to use medical technology in the best possible ways that, in the long run, benefit the Arab population in terms of preserving the traditions of the care and spiritual personal needs of being an Arabic human being.

And the way forward is the recommendation for an understanding and development of a system of effective educational ethics and medical ethics in particular.

This is so especially in relation to the development, over time, of medical technique and medical technology.

Moreover, ethics is not just about saving lives and preserving culture, ethics is an important way of life in itself.

Also, relating to/relating with is offered as a research technique in ethics for medical and nursing academics.
