The change management in data warehousing

Abstract EN

Data Warehouse (DW) integrates autonomous and heterogeneous External Data Sources (EDSs).

EDSs change in time independently of each other and it is independent on the DW that integrates them.

The dynamic nature of EDSs and real world lead to schema changes in DWs.

The main problems with the traditional DW are : 1) it does not support changes on multidimensional instances or multidimensional structures, 2) it does not provide appropriate analysis of data coming from different time periods that cause incorrectness in querying a DW and 3) it does not facilitate prediction of the future.

With a lot of different changes and the presence of several models that try to take these changes into account so it's necessary to survey and classify all changes types included some proposed changes that should be handled in a multidimensional database.

Also there need to explain the characteristic of different models that handle these changes and proposed classification of them to determine the appropriate model in a way to help decision makers.
