Image error recovery in fax transmission using data-prediction methodology with JBIG compression and V. 29 modulation

Abstract EN

This paper deals with recovery from errors that occur in fax transmission, assuming JBIG (Joint Bi-level Image experts Group) compression (ITU-T Recommendation T.85) and V.29 modulation.

The effort of this research is to develop a data prediction methodology for dealing with error recovery problem to avoid retransmitting the fax or the infected sectiorj.

The error recovery j problem relies on the ability to predict, with high probabilities, the original j value of corrupted data.

This is done by predicting the error value using two '■ prediction techniques, which are: Neighbor Duplication (ND) and Shifted- i Neighbor Duplication (SND).

The new developed methodology gives enhanced ; results for recovering from errors even when error patterns are unknown.
