Using treated and untreated water in compacted soil

Abstract EN

This paper presents a qualitative and quantitative study of the effect of using deionized water, treated and raw wastewater on the behavior of compacted soil.

Some aspects of the behavior of compacted soils are poorly understood because of their significant air content (i.e.

being in an unsaturated state).

Many experimental tests have been carried out to investigate the effect of mixing! Karak / Jordan soil with deionized water treated and raw domestic wastewater on j the behavior of unsaturated soil.

The test results show that there is no significant difference in the unsaturated shear strength ; and swelling between specimens mixed with deionized water and those' mixed with treated wastewater.

However, the raw wastewater showed adverse effect on shear strength and swelling.

The results obtained from this study are expected to be of great benefit and practical use in earth work portico aryl in a country that suffers from water shortage like Jordan.

However, experimental evidence to support this study is still limited.
