Abstract EN

T h is study has been conducted at the College of Agriculture \Basrah University between2007-2008 in an attempt to study the effect of some insecticide such as(Sword, Eagle, Vertimite, Endosulfan, Diazinon, and Match) on infection of tomato with Alternaria leaf spot caused by the fungus Alternaria alternate.

The lab results showed that all the used insecticides inhibited the growth of A.

alternata.

The most effective among them are Eagle and Vertimite where the percentage of growth inhibition reached 56.23% and 53.26% respectively compared to 14.33%, 34.95%, 48.40%, and 48.95% for the rest of the insecticide : Match, Sword, Endosulfan, and Diazinon respectively.

The study revealed that the most insecticide effective in inhibition of sporultion of the fungus is Vertimite where the number of spores in this treatment is 1*106 spore \ ml next in effect is Endosulfan.The pots experiments proved that all insecticides reduced the disease severity of the tomato cased by A.

alternata and especially Vertimite and Eagle where the infection severity is 34.5% and 28.5% respectively in comparison with 60.67% in the control treatment after they are sprayed on the plant shoot before their inoculate with the infectious fungus Moreover, it was found that the used insecticides have the same effect when they are sprayed on the leaves after the inoculation of the plant with the fungus especially in case of Vertimite where the infection decreased from 57% in the control treatment to 30% for this insecticide.
