The capillary electro migration method is an important analytical technique known for its simplicity, sensitivity, and selectivity.
We have investigated electrophoretically mediated microanalysis (EMMA) in plug-plug and continuous formats for the determination of phenolic compounds.
The azocoupling reactions of phenol, 3-aminophenol, and resorcinol with 4- nitrophenyldiazonium fluoroborate were carried out in a capillary under electrophoretic conditions.
Procedures for determination of phenol, 3-aminophenol, and resorcinol were proposed and applied for analysis of commercial hair dyes.
The EMMA method based on the plug-plug format provided 100- to 1000-fold improvement in sensitivity in comparison with traditional CE.
