Medical plants utilized in Palestinian folk medicine for treatment of diabetes mellitus and cardiac diseases

Traditional remedies are part of the cultured and religious life in Palestine.

In this project, herbal products used in folk medicine were investigated and recorded.

A total of one hundred and eighty four different plant species were in use.

Among these medicinal plants twenty one were used for their hypoglycemic effects, eleven were used for their hypotensive effects and forty were used for their diuretic effects.

Reservation of endangered medicinal plant species as well as clinical investigation of these plants is required.
