An ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants used in the treatment of childhood diseases in Omdurman City

The present study was carried out to document ethnobotanical knowledge of medicinal plants used in Onidurman city.

The paper reports 48 m edicinal plants belonging to 31 families used in the treatment of childhood ailments.

The use of herbal remedies is more functional among children and is frequently used as the first choice of treatment for various ailments in the study area.

The highest number of species and applications were reported for cough (10), to stop vomiting (8) followed by mouth diseases (7) , stomach disorders (6) and as an antispasmodics (6).

The highest number of plant species under use were imported (18) the rest were either cultivated (16)or indigenous (14).

Some wild species like Adansonia digitata , Cassia obtusifolia and Croton zambesicus are under severe harvesting by the local users in their habitat and require protection and conservation strategies.
