Abstract EN
Aim of the study : An equivalent radiation dose to that of a complete mouth survey, bite–wing radiographs, panoramic survey and cephalometric survey was exposed on a phantom head.
Materials and Methods : Ten human skulls were used in this study and the average readings of radiation doses which are read with the dose-measuring instrument, this instrument in which the pocket dosimeter is charged and later read in terms of radiation exposure (charger-reader) this mean that tissue-equivalent phantom fitted with dose-measuring instrument or dosimeters.
This study was used to evaluate and to compare the radiation dose associated with commonly used dental radiographic surveys including the following : - 1.
Fourteen full-mouth survey.
2.
Bit-wing radiographs.
3.
Panoramic survey and, 4.
Lateral cephalometric radiograph.
Results : It was demonstrated that converting from round to rectangular collimation reduced the radiation exposure by a factor or four.
Conclusion : A panoramic survey used approximately one third of the radiation exposure needed to expose a full-mouth survey with rectangular collimation.
