Abstract EN

Aim of study : The anteroposterior dental arch relationship of more than seven thousand 13 year old were selected from six Iraqi governorates (Baghdad the capital, Ninevah, Basrah, Diyala, Anbar and Najaf) was assessed.

Materials and Methods : An intra-oral clinical examination was used to assess the anteroposterior dental arch relationship using two methods : Angle’s classification and molar occlusion.

Results : Angle’s class I occlusion was found in 72.7 % of the sample, class II in 24.4 % (20.3 % division 1 and 4.1 % division 2) and 2.9 % had class III malocclusion (2.0 % postural and 0.9 % true).

Also, 75.1% of the sample had normal molar occlusion, 21.6 % had distal molar occlusion (17.5 % grade 1 and 4.1 % grade 2) and 3.4 % had mesial molar occlusion (3.3 % grade 1 and 0.1 % grade 2).

This distribution significantly differed between the governorates but was statistically insignificantly associated with gender and location.
