Abstract EN

Aim of the Study : To study glucose level in stimulated saliva among insulin dependent diabetic patients in relation to dental caries, and in comparison to healthy subjects matching with age and gender.

Material and Methods : In the present study 22 insulin dependent diabetic children were examined for their dental caries in relation to glucose level in stimulated saliva.

A 21 control group of healthy children were examined too.

Glucose was determined by two different techniques, the enzymatic method and Nelson’s methods.

Results : Data revealed a higher caries experience among the control group compared to diabetic children but with no statistically significant differences (P>0.05).

Salivary glucose level was higher among diabetic patients than the control with a statistically highly significant difference (P <0.01).

Values of glucose levels determined by the enzymatic method were statistically significantly higher than the other method.

A weak and not significant correlation co efficient was recorded between dental caries and salivary glucose levels (P >0.05).
