Abstract EN
Aim of the study : to determine the distribution and types of transposed teeth and to evaluate some of the possible etiological factors.
Materials and methods : The sample of this study consisted of sixty-three patients exhibiting transposition of teeth with an age range of 10-34 years Results : The record of 36 subjects with transposed canine, both maxillary and mandible, was collected 25 subjects (69.4 %) were females.
Twenty-eight (77.8 %) of cases involved the maxillary arch and twenty-one (53.6 %) of these upper arch transpositions were of canine and lateral incisor.
All the cases involving lower arch the canine was transposed with the lateral incisor.
Most of the cases (86.1 %), in both maxilla and mandible, were unilateral and (61.1 %) affected right side of dental arches.
Most of the cases (91.7 %) associated with other anomalies : retained deciduous teeth (81.2 %), absent teeth (15.2 %) and / or supernumerary tooth (9.1 %), peg-shaped lateral incisors (12.1 %).
Conclusion : The etiology of transposition remains speculative and of unknown origin.
