أجريت هذه الدراسة المقطعية في منطقتين من محافظة البصرة : منطقة حي الخليج و منطقة شط العرب لدراسة المشاكل المتعلقة بالبصر و السمع عند كبار السن.
شملت الدراسة كبار السن (60 سنة فأكثر)، (240) مسنا من منطقة حي الخليج و (211) مسنا من منطقة شط العرب و جمعت المعلومات باستخدام استمارة خاصة ملئت من قبل أحد الباحثين.
أظهرت الدراسة أن النسبة العامة لانتشار المشكلات المتعلقة بالبصر بين المسنين كانت (64 %) و كانت النسبة أعلى في منطقة حي الخليج (66.3 %) عنها في منطقة شط العرب (61.6 %) و عند الذكور أعلى من الإناث و النسبة تزداد بشكل معتد إحصائيا مع زيادة العمر، و عالج (58.1 %) فقط من المسنين الذين لديهم مشكلات في البصر تلك المشكلات و كان أكثرهم حي الخليج مقارنة بشط العرب.
كذلك كشفت نتائج الدراسة عن وجود مشكلات السمع في حوالي (18.2 %) و بنسبة أعلى في منطقة شط العرب (19.9 %) من منطقة حي الخليج (16.7 %)، و تزداد هذه النسب مع زيادة العمر و بشكل معتد إحصائيا.
أوصت الدراسة بالتقصي عن مشاكل البصر، و التداخل الطبي المبكر قد يمنع حصول العوق البصري، فمن الممكن تسهيل و توفير فحص البصر مجانا لكبار السن من قبل أخصائي العيون في المركز الصحي القريب مجانا قد يكون أفضل من الفحص في المستشفى، بين فترات أقصاه سنتان، فحص السمع المتكرر (مرة لكل سنتين) من قبل أخصائي الأنف و الإذن و الحنجرة في المركز الصحي القريب و الفحص و إجراء تخطيط السمع من حين لأخر لغرض التشخيص المبكر و عدم حدوث العوق السمعي الذي يؤدي إلى عزل المصاب عن عائلته و عن المجتمع.
Abstract EN
This is a cross-sectional survey, carried out in two areas in Basrah Governorate (namely Hay-AI-Khalig " A1 " and Shatt-AI Arab " A2 ") involving elderly people (60 years and above).
The overall prevalence of vision-related problems was (64.0 %) with a higher prevalence in A1 (66.3 %) than in A2 (61.6 %), higher among males than females and was significantly increasing with age.
Only (58.1 %) of the reported visual problems were treated and were more likely to be in A1 than in A2.The prevalence of hearing problems was (18.2 %), with a higher prevalence in A2 (19.9 %) than in A1 (16.7 %), and among females (19.5 %) than males (16.8 %).
Hearing problems was significantly increasing with age.
The study recommended frequent screening of visual and hearing problems by frequent examination, at least every two years by specialists in the nearby health center freely, this might help early detection of the problems and initiation of treatment to prevent disability and social isolation.
