Abstract EN

The principal adhesion receptor on leukocyte for C.

albicans is called CD] lb / CD 18 .The ability Of C.

albicans to modulate its function and suppress the phagocytic activity to Candida was done through this receptor.

Candida also can induce activation of NK and LAK cells and induce production oflL2 in vivo from such cells, which in turn activate the professional anticandidal phagocytes.

This work was done to assess the function of polymorph nuclear leukocytes by detecting the expression of CDllb / CD18 on PMN cells, and its relation to the natural killer cells (CD16.56) and lymphokine activated killer cells (CD25) as anticandidal defense mechanisms in NID diabetic patients with candidal infection and its clinical evaluation.

Our study was carried out on 50 subjects divided into 10 apparently healthy individuals included as control (group I), 10 type 2 diabetic patients without candidal infection (group 11), 30 type 2 diabetic patient with candidal infection .There was a significant decrease in the expression of CDllb, CD18, NK cells in both diabetic groups .while there was non significant increase in CD 25 in both diabetic groups.

Also the lowest expression of CD11/ CD18 was found with C.

albicans, then non-albicans non-tropicalis and lastly Ctropicalis.

So in conclusion, the phagocytic activity was decrease in both diabetic groups but more profound decreas was found in diabetic group with candidal infection, and it was found that the most pathogenic candidal species inhibiting 'the phagocytosis was C.

albicans.
