Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to estimate the maximum Daily floods in the Wadi Kebir Rhumel drainage basin (Oriental Tell - Algeria).

The basin covers an area of about 8815 km2.

The estimation uses the daily maximum rainfall data recorded in 21 stations during the period from 1/1/1961-31/12/2001.

The study presents three models/methods to estimate the maximum daily flood-runoff which include: 1 - The Turazza model which used to: a- Estimate the daily maximum floods at the level of drainage sub-basins, b- To estimate the daily maximum floods suitable to runoff coefficient 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9.

2-Mallet-Gautier model for the estimation of the daily maximum floods for return periods 2 years, 5years, 10 years >.50 years and 100 years based on annual rainfall data from partial basins.

3-Possenti model to estimate the daily maximum floods in all Wadi Kebir Rhumel drainage basin.

The study has shown the spatial variations of the daily maximum floods and the volume and velocity of the floods.

The study has also shown the possibility of applying the Turazza and Mallet-Gautier models because of the small differences between their estimates in comparison to the measured daily maximum runoff particularly in the level of partial basins.

As for the whole Wadi Kebir Rhumel drainage basin, the Possenti model and the Turazza model can be used because the little differences between their estimates and the measured daily maximum runoff.
