Abstract EN

Geographical distribution of industries is considered as one of the main topics which has attracted attention of geographers in a number of countries, as well as the concern of researchers and pJaners of government policies world wide.

It is acknowledged that industry vary from other economic activities such as agriculture in terms of geographical distribution mode, as the first tend to centralize and stabilize near to architectural centers, specially large cities where vast markets, numerous transport modes, labor hand and various service centers are available.

The objective of this study is to get acquainted on the geographical distribution of industries within the Dammam city, through discussions on its five geographical sites till the year 1424 (2004), which are occupying a total area of 2256 hectares, with 437 industries, employing 38329 employees and with a capital of 7875 million Saudi Riyals.

More than one statistical mode has been applied including the factors of industry power, industry stabilization and industry specialization.

The fundamental results of the study revealed a clear tendency of industries to centralize in two basic axles; one at the south eastern part (First Industrial City), and the other at the south western (Second Industrial City),The study also revealed the special trends of industrial sites and their stabilization when compared with the main structural buildings of Dammam city, Industrial cities which are located at separate sites away from the main structural bodies of the city, such as the second industrial city, are considered among the most favored locations for being far from residential buildings and accordingly the less negative impact on residents.

Therefore, the study confirms that future expansion will take place toward the south western direction of the city, particularly vacant land plots there, still constitute a considerable percentage of the total area of the second industrial city.

According to its geographical location, it has the capability to become a basic industrial center of the region.

The researcher recommends re-organization of some of the industrial sites such as (alikhodaryyah, al-sanaeyyah and al-Khaldiyyah), with regard to provision of the required services, including illumination of streets, garbage disposal services.

The researcher also call for carrying out further studies on the other geographical elements which are not covered by this study.
