Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Two thousand two hundred and sixty six mostly loose teeth were examined in this study to gain some insight about the dental health of the people of Sa'ad, a Late Byzantine Site in northern Jordan.
The findings of the incidence of the three pathological conditions (dental wear, dental caries and dental enamel hyperplasia) which were examined show that dietary components played a strong controlling factor in the prevalence of these diseases including those due to bacterial deposits on the teeth, the quality of food, food preparation techniques, abrasive foodstuffs, and the probable use of teeth as tools have all played a role in these dental structural defects.
The findings also show that the Sa'ad people were not unlike other agriculturalists who lived at the same time period at various other sites in northern Jordan.
