Abstract EN

Complexes of Cu (II) containing a macrocyclic Schiff base with multidentate nitrogen-sulphur ligands have been prepared via reaction of these ligands with Cu (II).

The new Schiff base ligands were prepared by [2 + 2] condensation of terephthalaldehyde with 1, 2-di (o-aminophenylthio) ethylene, l,l,2-tri (arninophenylthio) ethylene and l, l, 2, 2-tetra(o-aminophenylthio) ethylene.

The structures of the ligand and their complexes have been elucidated by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, IR, electronic and 'H-NMR spectral studies.

The tetra coordinate complexes are of the high spin type and have a tetrahedral geometry around copper.
