Abstract AR
Abstract EN

The study included a cohort of 647 pregnant women attending one antenatal care clinic in Basrah.
The incidence of preterm birth (< 37 weeks gestation) was 8.6 %, and the incidence of low birth weight (< 2500 gms) was 7.4% of singleton live births.
Tow birth weight was significantly and independently associated with preterm delivery (RR = 15.45), nulliparity (RR = 3.78), low maternal weight (RR = 2.63), < and maternal antenatal complications (RR = 2.24).
The risk of preterm birth was significantly increased if the woman had previous history of preterm delivery (KR = 4.5).
Still birth rate was SO J per 1000 births, & the perinatal mortality rate was 54.1 per 1000 births.
The overall risk of infant death was 41.6 per 1000 live births.
Socioeconomic status variables as maternal and paternal educational level < and maternal employment were significantly and independently associated with perinatal and infant mortality.
