Abstract EN

This study was intended to investigate the impact of the use of gas as an alternative to biomass fuel on the development of rural women.

It was carried out in the north Bahri unit of Bahri district of Khartoum State.

A sample of 75 women was selected randomly from three villages in the area.

The data were collected mainly through structured interview using a questionnaire and were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).

The results indicated that the use of gas had a positive impact through saving time, effort and money.

That led rural women to increase care of their families especially children.

However, the study explained that saving time, effort and money through use of gas was not enough to bring about comprehensive development women.

The recommendations of the study focused on how to find programs for the development of rural women and actively involve them in the planning, implementing and monitoring and evaluation of these programs, so as to get all the advantage of time, money and effort saved as a result of using gas.
