Abstract EN

A Field experiment was conducted in the high terraces of Dongla area, Northern State, Sudan for two seasons (2008/09 and 2009/10).

The objective of the study was to determine the effect of watering regimes on two cultivars of wheat.

The irrigation treatments were water withholding every 19 days at certain stages of growth of wheat as follows: W1 = 1-20 days (germination + seedling development), W2 = 21-39 days (tillering + stem elongation or jointing), W3 = 40-59 days (booting +heading), W4 = 60-79 days (flowering or anthesis + milk stage), W5 = 80-99 days (dough + ripening), and W6 = control irrigated every 10 days.

The two cultivars were WadiElniel and Npta.

The results showed no significant effect on spike/m2, grain per spike, spikelet/spike and 1000 seed weight, but there were differences between cultivars.

Npta showed the highest records for number of spike/m and spikelets/spike, with significant effect in the first season.

Meanwhile, WadiElneil had greater 1000-seed weight compared with Npta.
