Field experiment were carried out over two years (1999/2000 and 2000/2001) to study the effect of chicken manure on prussic acid content (HCN) of two forage sorghum cultivars.
The chicken manure was applied at rates of zero, 2.5, 5,5, and 7.5 tons per feddan (feddan= 0.42 ha).
Two Forage Sorghum cultivars (Abu sabein and Pioneer) were used in the experiments.
A split plot design with three replications was used in the experiments.
The main plots consisted of the cultivars whereas, the sub- plots consisted the different dozes of the chicken manure.
Prussic acid content were significantly increased by chicken manure treatment.
Abu sabein (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) had higher content of prussic acid than Pioneer cultivar while all prussic acid content of Pioneer cultivar did not reach the toxic level ( ≥204 ppm) during the two seasons.
