This research aims to analyze and evaluate achievement tests for students of foreign languages (French and English) and their teachers at Sudanese universities.
In this study, the researcher adopted the descriptive method.
The research community was the language examination of Sudanese universities (2002/2003- 2003/2004).
The second sample was French and English languages teaching staff members at Sudanese universities (Khartoum state).159 exams were analyzed, while 41 teaching staff members were taken as a sample for the study.
The researcher used test analysis scheduling and questionnaire as tools for data collecting.
These tools are dealt with statistically through percentage and(X2 ) test.
The significant results reached by the researcher are: The French and English examinations of Sudanese universities focus on measuring the lower level of knowledge of Bloom’s taxonomy such as knowledge, comprehension and application, while ignoring the higher level of knowledge such as analytic composition and evaluation.
The French and English languages teaching staff members have a limited concepts and principles of terminologies of measurement and evaluation.
The examination of French and English languages at Sudanese universities can be described as having some characteristics of the ideal tests.
The French and English languages teaching staff members in Sudanese universities do not follow all the criteria and standardisation of achievement tests.
The French and English languages teaching staff members concentrate on short essay test, completion tests, cloze tests and true-false tests, while they ignore the other types of tests .The French and English languages teaching staff members restrict themselves to the conditions and procedures of marking language tests.
The first thing to be done by French and English languages teaching staff members to revise as feedback the following: Teaching methods used.
Syllabus used.
Results of other subjects in the same field.
Making sure of students background about the subject.
Teaching aids used.
The interaction of the teacher with students.
Students’ financial condition.
At the end of the study the researcher presented a number of recommendations: Such as importance of making short courses training, focusing on types of measurement and its importance in educational process.
