English Abstract
The kinetics of oxidation of Pindolol by Peroxydisulfate (PDS) in sulphuric acid and 40 % v / v methanol-water has been investigated.
The kinetic pH profile was also investigated ; it has been found that, the reaction only could proceeds in pH range of 0 to 4.
A mechanism was proposed for the oxidation reaction ; the reaction start by the attack of Peroxydisulfate (PDS) to form an indoleninic species which could be rearranged into Indoxyl species.
Once the Indoxyl intermediate is formed, it can follow different paths leading to different products depending on the acidity and PDS concentration; at low acidic concentration the oxipindolol is formed while at high acid concentration the dioxipindolol is formed.
The dioxipindolol could be dimerized to give the final product, indigo form of Pindolol A polar mechanism was proposed for the oxidation reaction.
Thermodynamic parameters were determined.
