English Abstract

Our intention is to apply the method of the phase shift analysis to neutron-proton scattering at low energy, and to demonstrate the dependence of phase-shift on angular momentum (ℓ) when the potential is assumed to have a finite interaction range.

For this purpose, our task is to solve the radial wave equation for S-wave ; we will illustrate nucleon-nucleon (N-N) potential for two body problem (square-well, and hard sphere potentials).

According to deuteron theory, we chose 55.2537 Mev for deuteron potential and 2 fm for deuteron radius then drew figures representing the singlet and triplet phase shifts and the cross sections which are all functions of incident neutron energy.

There is agreement between our theoretical calculation and experimental data.

The main contribution in phase shift and cross section is S-wave scattering (ℓ = 0).

Our calculations indicated that the value of singlet cross section (n↑p↓) is more than that of triplet state (n↑p↑); while the values of triplet and singlet phase shifts and cross sections become closer to each other as the neutron energy increases.

The role of high order (ℓ > 0) is essential at high energies.
