English Abstract

Electrical motors and their control are considered tune varying, nonlinear dynamic systems.

Tins thesis work presents speed control of two types of these motors: speed control of a separately excited DC motor, and sensorless speed control of AC' Induction motors.

The main aim of this thesis work is to model and simulate promising and inexpensive methods to develop and assess sensorless control schemes of induction motors.

The proposed systems operate without a rotor speed sensor, and as a result getting rid of its disadvantages; the rotor angular speed is calculated in different ways using multiscalar state variables and power measurements.

The methods are applied to field oriented control principle, which converts the control of the induction motor to the simpler control of the separately excited DC motor.

A Fuzzy logic controller is used for speed control of both types of motors.

Simulation results are obtained and a comprehensive analysis and comparative study of several relationships of rotor angular speed is presented using fuzzy logic control and conventional proportional-integral control, based on a set of criteria to assign "figures of merit".
