English Abstract
In this work the theory of fractional calculus is used to introduce dissipative effects (such as friction) into Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, where it was known that there is no potential function corresponding to non-conservative forces.
The Laplace transform of fractional derivatives and the non-conservative Lagrangian mechanics developed by Riewe using fractional derivatives are used to develop a theoretical method to obtain potentials for non-conservative forces.
Several illustrative examples are also discussed.
Also making use of Riewe's formalism, a general Lagrangian form is studied where general equations of motion containing fractional derivatives for damped systems are obtained using the generalized Euler-Lagrange equation.
