English Abstract

The ligands, l-(5-a-bithienyl)-4,4,4-trifluoro-l,3-butanedione H (bi-TTA), and 3-(2, 5-dichlorothienyl)-4, 4, 4-trifluoro-1, 3-butanedione H(dc-TTA), have been used to prepare U02 (II), Th (IV), Co (III), Fe (III), and Cr (III) complexes according to literature methods .

Metal complexes, were characterized by IR, H, C-NMR, magnetic susceptibility measurements, elemental analyses and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).

In the case of H(bi-TTA) complexes, the metal to ligand ratio are found to be 1 : 2 U022+ complex, 1 : 3 transition metal complexes {M = Co(III), Fe(III), and Cr (III)} and 1 : 4 for Th(IV) complex.

Based on the characterization methods of H (bi-TTA) complexes, the resulted chemical formulas are shown below 1 : 2 : ratio for [U02(bi-TTA)2].2H20 with a coordination number six, and 1 : 3 ratio for [Co(bi-TTA)3], [Fe(bi-TTA)3], and [Cr(bi- TTA)3], with a coordination number six, and 1 : 4 for [Th(bi-TTA)4], with coordination number eight.

The resulted chemical formulas of H (dc-TTA) complexes are shown below : 1 : 2 ratio for [U02(dc-TTA)2C2H5OH], and [Th(dc-TTA) 2 (N03)2], with coordination numbers six and eight respectively and 1 : 3 for [Cr(dc-TTA)3], [Co(dc-TTA)3].C2H5OH, and [Fe(dc-TTA)3].C2H5OH with a coordination number six.
