English Abstract

The main aim of this study is to see the effect of developing students' voice in writing on their language performance.

This study attempted to answer the following questions: 1.

What is the effect of writing – voice strategy on students' performance in grammar, vocabulary and spelling compared with the conventional method? 2.

What is the effect of the writing- voice strategy on writing compared with the conventional method? In order to conduct this study, the researcher pre-tested two groups (experimental and control) in order to discover their levels in writing and language.

After the implementation of the method, the two groups were posttested to measure their development.

The study led to the following conclusions: 1.

The adapting of "Writing Voice Strategy" in writing classes would develop students writings and hence their language. 2.

The whole process of writing should be emphasized and not only the product.

Some recommendations for the Ministry of Education, teachers and researchers in Jordan for further research were suggested.

For example, the following are some of the suggested recommendations: 1.

The Ministry of Education is also called upon to develop the steps devised to implement the "focus on writing" lessons in the first secondary text book.

In other words, they should be based on the "writing voice strategy." 2.

Teachers are advised to use the writing voice strategy, which, if employed successfully, will motivate students and activate their knowledge.

This in its turn will develop their writing and hence their language.

3.

Teachers are also advised not to limit their writing skill instruction to correct spelling, mechanics of writing, grammatical and lexical items at the expense of student's voice.
