English Abstract

Nasopharyngeal colonization rates with normal flora of school children were studied in order to obtain information about normal micro flora.

Seventy school children were chosen for this work.

A total of 413 isolates, 158 aerobic, 32 anaerobes, and 223 facultative anaerobes were recovered.

Staphylococcus aureus and Moraxella catarrhal is (11.8 %) were more frequently isolated aerobic (13.7 %) and facultative anaerobic (11.8 %) bacteria, respectively.

Whereas, Villanelle spp.

was the most often isolated anaerobic bacteria (3.9 %).

Staphylococcus aureus was found to be the predominant species recovered from males and females.

Moraxella catarrhal is and Streptococcus pyogenic were the next most isolated species from males only.

While, Moraxella catarrhal is was the next recovered species from females.

The least aerobic bacteria were represented by Corynebacterium spp.

in both males (1.50 %) and in females (1.20 %).

Fusobacterium spp.

was the least isolated species (0.5 %) from both males and females.

The antibiotic ciprofloxacin (5 ug / disk) was found to be the most effective antimicrobial agent against all studied aerobic bacterial strains.

While, oxacillin (1 ug / disk) was shown to be the least effective antibacterial agent These findings demonstrate that aerobic and anaerobic microbial flora was present in school children, and that aerobic micro flora outnumbered the anaerobic bacterial species.

This work also showed that the number of bacteria was proportional to the child age.
