English Abstract

-Forty three soil bacterial isolates were obtained from al Tafeila (South Jordan).

The crude extract of eighteen strains of them showed antibacterial activity.

One of these isolates (2A2) was shown to be the most potent strain that caused maximum inhibition zone in agar diffusion assay.

Bacteria strain 2A2 was identified as Brevibacterium based on RapID CB plus kit.

It produces crude extract that was active against the tested Gram positive bacteria (M.

luteus, B.

subtilis and S.

aureus).

One strain of Gram negative bacteria Proteus vulgaris.

MIC values ranged between 31.2-62.5 μg/ml.

The active substances in the extract are believed to be polar compounds.

Moreover, the extract exhibited antioxidant activity in FRAP assay in a dependent concentration manner.

The crude extract of Brevibacterium sp.

2A2 has a narrow antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria and Proteus vulgaris.

More studies are required in the future to deduce the substances that are behind such activities.
