English Abstract
Data derived from systematic surveys and excavations, in addition to identification of sites from various temporal periods, can be used to characterize local settlement patterns and systems.
The study relies on library research in collecting information about the sites from resources and references, which involve many previous projects in this study.
In addition to field visits have been made to the sites that have been surveyed, whether excavated or unexcavated by the previous archaeological works.
The materials ( artifacts and pottery ) used for this study are the results of my personal surface collection from various sites during field visits , in addition to the results of excavation done by the Wadi al - Hasa Palaeolithic Project, conducted during the 1980s and 1990s . The emphasis is on lithic data which are known from excavations in the area.
The aims of this study are threefold : 1 ) To document the sites which appear in all periods and sheds light on the settlement patterns ; 2 ) To appeal for the protection of these sites , as most of them are owned by the private sector and are , exposed to the risk of extensive agriculture , destructions and constructions ; 3 ) To review and compare neighboring surveys in Jordan with some sites from Wadi al - Hasa .
The results emphasized that many of the excavated or unexcavated sites which belong to the prehistoric and historical periods needs more protection and tourist development co - operation with different interested institutions and corporations, looking forward for a better understanding and a good relationship with the local community, besides, these sites represent a significance repertoire of history for Jordan and the next generation to come.
