English Abstract
The infrared spectra (3700-500 cm"1) have been recorded for kaolinite and betonies from Baten El-Ghoul (South of Jordan) and El-Azraq (North of Jordan) regions, respectively, using KBr-disk and nujol methods under different conditions.
Complete vibrational assignments of the basic fundamental modes for kaolinite and betonies were proposed, which were supported by the two methods used.
Additionally, the spectra recorded for samples obtained from most of the abundant sites for each clay, indicated identical content of major components.
The spectra recorded for dried at 150 °C samples of kaolinite obtained before and after hydrocycloning and magnetic separation, showed an increase in the AI2O3 and a decrease in the Si02 content.
The spectrum recorded for betonies clearly showed a significant carbonate (CO3"2) content.
The results obtained by infrared spectra were compared with other studies performed for betonies and kaolinite in these two regions.
