English Abstract

Phosphate rock is one of Jordan's most important resources of foreign exchange.

The state owned Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC) transports currently phosphate rock from the mines to Aqaba port.

Railway is the only low cost transportation mode for phosphate.

ARC is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the railway transportation mode.

There are many maintenance projects that the company should implement every year.

However, the yearly budget of the company is relatively very limited and the company cannot afford to implement all the annual suggested maintenance projects.

In this research, we employed both the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and certain resource allocation techniques to distribute this year's budget (JD 1,200,000) among the proposed maintenance projects in a systematic and scientific way.

It is found that this budget is sufficient to implement the following projects : Rebuilding the rail, buying spare parts for the tamping unit, improving of signaling and telecommunications, Maintenance of Lathes and Training.
