English Abstract

This thesis focus was to introduce solutions to the Jordanian electric power transmission system expansions and investigate their economic feasibility.

The proposed solutions introduced fall into two categories, the first category includes the use of HVDC technology instead of HVAC technology.

The second category includes the use of HTLS conductor technology.

Economic evaluation results for the two solutions categories mentioned above were : 1.

The use of HVDC instead of HVAC for the Jordanian electric power transmission system expansions projects was found non economically feasible and not recommended as a solution for electric power transmission system expansion in Jordan.

2.

The use of HTLS conductors (ACCC / TW) was found to be economically attractive for new power transmission projects and economically feasible for reconductoring the existing lines and it is recommended to be taken into consideration for electric power transmission system expansion or up rating in Jordan.
