English Abstract

This study aims to modify the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) to make it applicable to the Jordanian environment and investigation of the psychometric properties on Jordanian patients.

The study sample consisted of two groups: the first group consisted of (300) subject (48 % patients and 52 % health care provider's employees) for pain descriptor words collection, and the second group consisted of (378) patient suffering from different pain conditions for the application of the Jordanian Arabic version of MPQ.

(JaMPQ) The results indicated that the Jordanian Arabic version of MPQ (JaMPQ) had high reliability level with intraclass corrected correlation coefficients, respectively for the sensory, affective, evaluative miscellaneous, Present Pain Intensity (PPI) and Number of Words Chosen (NWC) (0.92, 0.98, 0.99, 0.98, 0.45, and 0.92), subclasses internal consistency of the questionnaire was (0.73) and for the questionnaire total score test retest was (0.77), The validity tests were approved by expert pain panel for the content validity, and the concurrent criterion related validity was (0.97) with other Numerical pain intensity scale used for cancer patients, while the discriminative capacity of the JaMPQ was listed through the patient's pattern selecting pain descriptors.

In addition, the results indicated that there was significant positive correlation between age and Present Pain Intensity (PPI).

The data, more, illustrated that females had higher scores than males on PPI and there were no interaction between sex groups and some selected pain conditions on PPI.
