English Abstract
-The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using information communication technology (ICT) by English Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Tafila.
This was attempted through investigating teachers' attitudes, current ICT usage, and highlighting barriers that (EFL)teachers may encounter.
To achieve the goal of this study, the following research questions were addressed : 1- What are the attitudes of EFL teachers towards ICT in teaching? 2-To what extent does the use of ICT affect English language instruction in classroom? 3- What are the barriers that EFL teachers encounter when trying to incorporate ICT in the classroom? The target population of the study was all male and female EFL teachers as estimated as 268 teachers in Tafila Directorate of Education in Jordan during second semester for the academic year 2008/2009. To achieve the purpose of the present study, a 53 item questionnaire was developed by the researcher and distributed to the subjects in the study. The findings of the study showed that EFL teachers in Jordan have positive attitudes towards using ICT in education, and they encounter several problems when they try to incorporate ICT in the classroom.
The findings ,also, revealed that the percentage of using ICT in English language classrooms by EFL teachers was low. In the light of the findings of the study, a set of suggestions and recommendations were stated to , policymakers, Jordanian Ministry of Education, researchers, EFL curriculum designers, and EFL teachers in order to activate using ICT in English language classrooms.
