English Abstract

Air consists of 21% of 02, 78% of N2 and variable gases in variable percentages.

Air pollution is still a major health concern in many areas, and motor vehicles are considered a major source of air pollution.

The main objective of this study is to determine the actual pollution which derived from cars emission in Jordan by measuring the concentration of gases such as C02,C0, HC, NOx and measuring the opacity degree for diesel cars then compare the result with Jordan's and national standards.

By distributing the questioners to know the effect of maintenance of vehicles and how the drivers drive their vehicles on the exhaust emissions.

Over 3422 automobiles are tested for exhaust emissions include 1076 vehicles with questioners was distributed on the drivers.

Different parameters are evaluated in parallel with the amount of emissions.

These parameters include: vehicles year of manufacturing, type of motors fuel, vehicles size, maintenance variables and driving behaviors.

The results of emitted gases from exhaust vehicles are compared with the Jordanian National Standards (J.N.S) and analyzed as a complete set of data where statistical analysis techniques(SPSS) was applied for further conclusions.

For benzene vehicles the following gases (C02, CO, HC, and NOx) are tested directly in the field.

For the diesels vehicles, the degree opacity are measured in the field and compared with the (J.N.S).
