English Abstract

We used in our study a variational wave function to describe the atomic negative ion, Al ", which has a two-electron system in the 3p -state.

Each electron is described by a modified screened wave function involving three free screening parameters denoted by a and c in addition to the core-screened nuclear charge, Z.

The optimum values of these parameters are determined using a variational technique that minimizes the total binding energy of outer electrons to make it as close as possible to the latest available experimental value.

We also calculated the photodetachment cross section as a function photon energy over the range 0-0.2 a.

using the same theoretical model, where our results near threshold agree with Wigner threshold law and the recent experimental measurements of the relative photodetachment cross-section.
