Abstract EN
The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to compare successful labor induction between preeclampsia and nonpreeclamptic women admitted to the delivery ward of Shahid Bahonar Hospital in Kerman.
Two hundred preeclampsia women were selected as case and 200 nonpreeclamptic as control group and both received labor induction.
Two groups were similar regarding to the age, parity, gravidity, abortion, first and second phase induction, and Bishop score of cervix.
But there were significant differences based on gestational age (P < 0.0001) and membrane rupture (P < 0.001).Gestational age and ruptured membrane of preeclampsia women were less than nonpreeclamptics.
Successful induction in preeclampsia and nonpreeclamptic women occurred 53.5 % and 77 % respectively and this difference was significant (P < 0.001).
In two groups there was significant difference in successful induction with Bishop score (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001 respectively), so that the higher Bishop score was associated with higher successful labor.
Induction of labor in preeclampsia women may carry a higher risk of failed induction and of cesarean delivery compared to nonpreeclamptic women.
