English Abstract
This thesis presents a new model of the packet success probability due to interference in Bluetooth which forms the foundation for the Interference Aware Bluetooth Segmentation Algorithm (IBLUE).
IBLUES seeks to mitigate the effect of Bluetooth interference whether its Bluetooth Intermittent or Persistent interference type by switching dynamically between Bluetooth packet types as the packet success probability due to interference increases or decreases.
This thesis proposes a new segmentation procedure of Bluetooth packets instead of the procedure presented in previous works.
This new proposed procedure increases the efficiency of transmitting packets and then increases the Useful Bandwidth (UB) and consequently, makes the IBLUES more effective.
This can be verified by comparing the thesis results with the results of Carlos M.
Cornelio.
This thesis also presents the Bluetooth architecture which employs a hybrid approach of the Adaptive Frequency Hopping and a novel mechanism called Bluetooth Carrier Sense (BCS).
AFH seeks to mitigate Bluetooth Persistent interference whereas BCS seeks to mitigate Bluetooth intermittent interference.
Therefore, Blue Star architecture enables the effective co-existence of both Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11 WLANs in the vicinity of the same band where Bluetooth operates.
Blue star also provides Bluetooth access to the WAN such as the internet and takes advantage of the existing IEEE 802.11 WLANs.
Blue Star is observed to greatly outperform existing Bluetooth under different traffic conditions.
All results obtained in this thesis are validated and demonstrate using both analytical and simulated techniques.
